Menopause can be a powerful season of wisdom, healing, and self-discovery.
Menstrual cycle and menopause are deeply connected stages of a woman’s life, yet many women are never taught how their monthly cycle prepares them for future hormonal transitions. Understanding the wisdom of your womb, from menstruation to menopause, can help you build a stronger relationship with your body and overall wellbeing.
There was a quiet revolution in my life the day I got my first period.
Unlike many girls, I knew what menstruation was, so I wasn’t shocked when it happened. Yet, it was still a private and somewhat secret event. What bothered me most wasn’t the bleeding itself but the giant sanitary pads available at the time.
I knew that periods would happen every month, but beyond that, I understood very little about my body, my womb, or the incredible wisdom hidden within the menstrual cycle.
Looking back, I did almost everything opposite to what I now teach.
As an awkward teenager, I desperately wanted to fit in. I embraced a tomboy persona, hoping it would help me feel accepted and loved. Beneath that confidence was a young girl who felt disconnected from her body and uncomfortable in her own skin.
Over time, life gifted me teachers, mentors, and experiences that helped me understand myself more deeply. As I began exploring emotional wellbeing, personal growth, and feminine wisdom, one area fascinated me more than any other: understanding the womb and the menstrual cycle.
The more I learned, the more I realized that our menstrual cycle is not something to endure. It is something to understand. I now help people understand the womb wisdom and help in healing

Why Understanding the Menstrual Cycle and Menopause Matters
From the moment we reach puberty, many of us are taught that periods are inconvenient.
We hear things like:
• Period pain is normal.
• Mood swings are just part of being a woman.
• Push through the discomfort.
• Don’t let your period slow you down.
The relationship between the menstrual cycle and menopause is often overlooked.
What we’re rarely taught is that the menstrual cycle is one of the most powerful indicators of women’s health.
Just as doctors look at blood pressure, heart rate, and blood tests, your menstrual cycle provides valuable insights into your physical, emotional, and hormonal wellbeing.
Your cycle is not working against you.
It is communicating with you.
When we learn to understand its language, we stop fighting our bodies and start working with them.
The Four Seasons of the Menstrual Cycle
Women’s bodies are not designed to operate the same way every day.
Unlike men, whose hormonal cycles typically operate on a 24-hour rhythm, women experience changes across an approximately 28-day cycle.
These shifts affect:
• Energy levels
• Creativity
• Productivity
• Emotional sensitivity
• Social confidence
• Intuition
A beautiful way to understand this is through the metaphor of the four seasons.
Winter: Menstruation Phase
This phase begins when bleeding starts.
Just like winter in nature, this is a time for slowing down.
Common experiences include:
• Desire for rest
• Increased intuition
• Reflection and journaling
• Need for solitude
• Greater emotional awareness
Many women notice that during menstruation they suddenly gain clarity about situations that are no longer serving them.
The womb invites us inward.

Spring: Follicular Phase
As menstruation ends, energy begins to rise again.
This phase often feels fresh, hopeful, and expansive.
Common experiences include:
• Increased optimism
• Curiosity
• New ideas
• Learning and exploration
• Motivation to plan
Spring is a season of possibility.
It is the ideal time to begin projects, learn new skills, and explore fresh opportunities.
Summer: Ovulation Phase
Ovulation represents the peak of our energy.
This is when many women naturally feel their most confident and socially connected.
Common experiences include:
• Strong communication skills
• Increased confidence
• Greater visibility
• Enhanced leadership abilities
• Ease in networking and teaching
This is often the phase where women feel most comfortable being seen and heard.

Autumn: Luteal Phase
Following ovulation, energy begins turning inward again.
Unfortunately, this phase is often reduced to conversations about PMS.
Yet there is far more wisdom here than most women realize.
Common experiences include:
• Increased discernment
• Emotional sensitivity
• Desire to simplify
• Heightened awareness
• Greater ability to identify what isn’t working
Rather than viewing this phase as problematic, we can learn to appreciate it as a period of refinement and insight.
How the Menstrual Cycle Prepares Women for Menopause
Every menstrual cycle teaches us something profound.
Each month, our bodies move through creation, expansion, reflection, and release.
Each cycle becomes a practice in letting go and beginning again.
This cyclical wisdom prepares us for one of the most significant transitions in a woman’s life: Menopause.
When we learn to honour each menstrual phase with awareness and compassion, we build the emotional resilience needed for future hormonal transitions.
Ignoring our body’s signals doesn’t make them disappear. It simply makes them louder later.

The Four Seasons of a Woman’s Life
Just as the menstrual cycle moves through seasons, so does a woman’s life.
Spring: Menarche and the Teenage Years
This season begins with our first period.
It is a time of:
• Exploration
• Growth
• Self-discovery
• Vulnerability
• Boundless energy
We are discovering who we are and who we might become.
Summer: Motherhood and Creative Expansion
Summer is often associated with creation.
This may include:
• Motherhood
• Career growth
• Building businesses
• Community contribution
• Creative expression
It is a time of giving, nurturing, and expansion.
Autumn: Perimenopause
For many women, perimenopause marks a powerful shift inward.
Common experiences include:
• Increased self-awareness
• Emotional sensitivity
• Desire for deeper meaning
• Reflection on life priorities
• Reduced tolerance for what no longer serves us
Rather than a decline, this season can become an awakening.
Winter: Menopause
Menopause is often misunderstood.
Rather than an ending, it can be viewed as an invitation into wisdom.
This season encourages:
• Rest
• Reflection
• Healing
• Acceptance
• Deep self-connection
It is a time to receive rather than constantly give.
A time to reconnect with yourself after years of caring for others.

Preparing for Menopause Through Menstrual Cycle Awareness
One of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves is learning to trust our bodies.
Awareness of the menstrual cycle and menopause supports emotional and physical wellbeing
Every menstrual cycle offers an opportunity to practice listening.
To practice slowing down.
To practice honouring our needs.
The more connected we become to our cycles during our reproductive years, the more supported we feel when entering perimenopause and menopause.
The wisdom we learn today becomes the foundation we stand on tomorrow.
